Number One is an unreleased track recorded in late 1989 or early 1990 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. Robin Power recorded vocal overdubs on 9 July 1990 at Paisley Park Studios (while Prince was in Europe on the Nude Tour).

The song's drum track was also used on Elephants & Flowers.

It was planned for inclusion on a proposed album by Robin Power and a video was shot for this song, but Prince soon lost interest and an album was never completed.

The song appears briefly in the Graffiti Bridge movie when Robin Power's character performs part of the song for Morris Day in an attempt to seduce him. The song remains unreleased, however.
