101 was the third single to be released from Sheena Easton's ninth album The Lover In Me. It was released eight months after the album, and was released worldwide.
The b-side, an instrumental version of 101, was previously unreleased, and several remixes of the song were contained on various formats of the single. 101 featured Prince as a writer, producer and performer.
The single did not enter the Billboard Hot 100 or Black charts in the USA, but was nonetheless a club hit, reaching number 2 for two consecutive weeks in the Billboard Hot Dance/Disco - Club Play chart. It also reached number 54 on the UK Gallup Singles Chart.
The tracks listed as 101 (Def House Mix / Extended Club Version) and 101 (The Remix) on different formats are in fact one and the same.
