101 was the third single to be released from Sheena Easton’s ninth album The Lover In Me. It was released around five months after the album, and was released worldwide.
The b-side, an instrumental version of 101, was previously unreleased, and several remixes of the song were contained on various formats of the single. 101 featured Prince as a writer, producer and performer.
The single did not enter the Billboard Hot 100 or Black charts in the USA, but was nonetheless a club hit, reaching number 2 for two consecutive weeks in the Billboard Hot Dance/Disco - Club Play chart. It also reached number 54 on the UK Gallup Singles Chart.
The tracks listed as 101 (Def House Mix / Extended Club Version) and 101 (The Remix) on different formats are in fact one and the same.
