T.R.O.U.B.L.E is the fifth track on Rosie Gaines' compilation Essential Rosie. Prince’s involvement was uncertain until a tape photographed in his vault at Paisley Park Studios listing T.R.O.U.B.L.E. as being recorded on the same day as I Want U was made public. The extent of his contribution is unknown however as the release of Essential Rosie compilation came with no credit details.

Basic tracking for the original version took place on 13 August 1992 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (on the same day as a re-recording of I Want U). It is not known if the song was intented for the planned Concrete Jungle album. A 1:15 sample of the track (as Trouble (Never Give Up)) was included in 2000 as the fifth track on the Man'O'War (Remix) NPG Records Sampler unreleased cassette (intended for promotional use only).

A re-recording took place between 1992 and the final release in 2015 (recording details are needed for the released version).
