The Rhythm Of Your ♥ (more commonly known as The Rhythm Of Your Heart, but also known as Rhythm Of Your ♥ or Listen 2 The Rhythm) is the fourth track on Mayte’s first and only album Child Of The Sun, and a few weeks before the album’s release, it was included as the b-side on some versions of If  Love U 2night, the album’s second single. In 2007, Rhythm Of Your ♥ (lacking the definite article in the title) was released as a limited-release single (originally pressed in 1998), containing an extended remix of the track featuring a rap by Prince (as  ). Although no production credit is given on the album, the song was written and produced by Prince (as ).
While specific recording dates are not known, basic tracking for Prince’s original version took place in early 1989, at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota, using the title Listen 2 The Rhythm. The first half of the chorus was reused from Rhythm Angel - "Shine like the sun, cry like the rain / Feel like an angel, know no pain", but the two songs are otherwise lyrically separate. The song was registered at the Library of Congress on 1 May 1989 as The Rhythm Of Your heart.
may have worked on the track further in 1994, and it was included as the second track on a late 1994 configuration of The Gold Experience, also under its original title. Mayte’s vocal overdubs likely took place in late 1994 at Paisley Park Studios, when the track was renamed The Rhythm Of Your ♥. It was included, in a different mix than released, as the fourth track on a 5 May 1995 configuration of Child Of The Sun, where it remained for release, although it was worked on further in Summer 1995 before release (Prince’s rap was removed, although included on the remix included on the single). It is likely the track was included on Mayte’s album Scorpio (as Rhythm Of Your ♥), which included some tracks from Child Of The Sun, as the single Rhythm Of Your ♥ was made available at that time.
