While specific recording dates are not known, basic tracking took place in the final week of June 1988, at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (during the same set of sessions where he revised Come Home, I Guess I'm Crazy and Train). The song was then sent (along with Come Home, I Guess I'm Crazy and Train) to Mavis Staples in Memphis, TN, USA, where she recorded lead vocal overdubs with producers Al Bell, Homer Banks and Lester Snell at Ardent Studios. Writing credit is shared with Staples as the song is based on a demo she had brought to Prince. |recording info = |- align="left" |style="border-top:1px dotted #ccc;"|{{{date}}} |style="border-top:1px dotted #ccc;"|{{{studio}}} |style="border-top:1px dotted #ccc;"|{{{additional info}}}
