We Can Hang is an unreleased song recorded on 2 November 1988. Prince had attended a concert by Dr. Mambo’s Combo at Fine Line, Minneapolis, Minnesota on 2 November 1988, during a day off from the Lovesexy Tour, and asked the group’s singer, Margie Cox, if she would be interested in recording with him. They went to nearby Paisley Park Studios that night and recorded We Can Hang. In late December 1988, they re-recorded We Can Hang (during the same sessions that produced Curious Blue, Warden In The Prison Of Love, Brand New Boy, R U There? and Girls Will Be Girls), to be released under the group name Flash or MC Flash (both names were used).
The track was included as the seventh track on the late 1989 configuration of the Flash album, which was ultimately abandoned. In November 1991, a new version of the song was recorded; at this point the project reverted back to a Margie Cox solo project. Margie Cox has stated that this is the only song from her sessions with Prince that she contributed to lyrically. This song is the earliest Prince-related recording to feature Margie Cox.
