Purple Snow: Forecasting the Minneapolis Sound is a collection of studio recordings by various artists from the Minneapolis (funk) music scene of the seventies and early eighties. The more complete and elaborate edition contains 32 tracks by over 20 artists including 3 songs which feature Prince as a musician : If You See Me with 94 East, Stone Lover and Got To Be Something Here by The Lewis Connection / Music, Love, & Fun (which was basically the same band with two different names).

If You See Me was previously released by Pepé Willie on the collection Symbolic Beginning in 1995. Stone Lover and Got To Be Something Here were released in the Twin Cities area in 1979 as a single (for Stone Lover) or in The Lewis Connection eponymous album. This compilation is the only release to contain the full unedited version of Stone Lover. Recorded between late 1975 and late 1976, these songs are among of the earliest-recorded sessions featuring Prince to have been released. Although Purple Snow: Forecasting the Minneapolis Sound contains, sometimes previously unreleased, early songs by Mind & Matter (with Jimmy Jam), Flyte Time (with most of the members of The Time), Alexander O’Neal, Sue Ann Carwell and André Cymone, there is no song representing Prince’s band Grand Central or his solo work from this era.

Three singles were released to promote the compilation (It's The Things That You Do by Flyte Tyme, I Love You by Herman Jones and If You See Me by 94 East) with limited impact. The compilation did not chart but the liner notes by former Wax Poetic and producer Jon Kirby were nominated for Best Album Notes at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards in 2015.
