Daddy Pop is the second track on the album Diamonds And Pearls, the first album credited to Prince and the New Power Generation. In 1992, it was included on some versions of the Sexy M.F. single.

Basic tracking took place on 2 July 1990 at Olympic Studios in London, England (on the same day as Schoolyard and Walk Don’t Walk). With Rosie Gaines, Elisa Fiorillo added her background vocals to the song, having been invited by Prince to take in the Nude Tour show in Cork, Ireland, on 7 July 1990. She flew to London with the band after the show, and then joined them in the studio the next day. Elisa Fiorillo’s lines in the studio version of the song (“Oh daddy / Oh, sock it to me / You’re The Best”) are actually borrowed from the 1977 movie Which Way Is Up?.
