Dionne is the fifth track on Prince's 21st album The Truth (his fifth using the name ).

Specific recording dates are not known, but the track is believed to have been recorded in Autumn 1996 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA (along with the rest of the album).

During a Love4oneanother.com "? of the week" in 1999, a fan (using the name Dionne) asked about the inspiration for the song, to which Prince replied:

"Dionne lives in London and knows quite well the heart she broke. All Dionnes r heartbreakers!"
