Dinner With Delores is the third track on Prince’s 18th album Chaos And Disorder (his second to be released using the name ), and, one month prior to the album’s release, Dinner With Delores was released as the album’s first and only single in the UK, Germany and Japan (in the USA the track was only available on a promo single).
Basic tracking was previously believed to have taken place in early April 1996, at South Beach Studios, Miami Beach, Florida, in what is believed to be the final session (that also yielded the re-recordings of Chaos And Disorder and Right The Wrong) with Michael B. and Sonny T. as regular band members for a number of years. However the song was also slated to appear on a Playtime By Versace project in mid-1995, meaning it was recorded a year earlier. The version slated for Playtime By Versace doesn’t have the short guitar-solo at the end, but is otherwise identical to the version released on Chaos And Disorder. It is not known if the name "Delores" refers to anyone in particular, or if it is simply a character for the song.
