Adore (originally titled Adore (Until The End Of Time)) is the seventh and final track on the second disc of Prince’s ninth album Sign O’ The Times. In 1993, the track was included (in a previously-unavailable edited form) as the twelfth track on Prince’s first compilation album The Hits 1 (also included as the first disc of The Hits / The B-Sides); its inclusion was unusual since the track had not been available as a single or as a promo release at any point. In 1996, the track was included as the ninth track on the soundtrack album Girl 6 (a compilation of music by Prince and associated artists for the movie Girl 6, directed by Spike Lee). In 2002, a live version was also included as the sixth track on the second disc of One Nite Alone... Live!, Prince’s first live album (along with Do Me, Baby and Condition Of The ♥ (Interlude) from the same show). Basic tracking took place on 19 November 1986 at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, California as Adore (Until The End Of Time) (three days before recording Play In The Sunshine and the studio overdubs for It’s Gonna Be A Beautiful Night). The track was initially placed (using this original title) as the seventh and final track on the third disc of the aborted 1986 album Crystal Ball, and was kept as the seventh and final track on the second disc as the album developed into Sign O’ The Times. In 2000, Adore was planned for inclusion on When 2 R In Love: The Ballads Of Prince (likely in re-recorded form, although it is possible this was planned but not executed). The album did not receive many votes by visitors at Prince: A Celebration, however, and was ultimately abandoned.
