2 The Wire (Creamy Instrumental) is the fourth track on the maxi-single of Cream, the second single from Prince’s 13th album Diamonds And Pearls (the first album to be credited to Prince and the New Power Generation). While loosely based on the song Cream and one of the other corresponding tracks, Things Have Gotta Change (Tony M. Rap), this can be considered a song in its own right. While labeled an instrumental, the track features several samples of lyrics and phrases, from Cream and Things Have Gotta Change (Tony M. Rap). Specific recording dates are unknown, but it is likely that recording took place in September-October 1991 (along with Cream (N.P.G. Mix), Things Have Gotta Change (Tony M. Rap), Get Some Solo, Do Your Dance, Housebangers, Q In Doubt and Ethereal Mix). The song uses some samples also found in My Name Is Prince (recorded 18 September 1991, indicating that the recording of this track was around the same time), including a moan from Indeep’s 1982 song When Boys Talk.
