Gotta Stop (Messin’ About) is Prince’s first non-album track, released only in the UK as Prince’s 12th worldwide single (the single was not commercially released in the US). In 1982, it was included as the b-side of the 12" version of Let’s Work (in the USA and Canada only), the second single from Prince’s fourth album Controversy. In 1993, it was included as the fourth track on The B-Sides compilation (included as the third and final disc on The Hits / The B-Sides). While specific recording dates are not known, Gotta Stop (Messin’ About) was recorded during the Dirty Mind album sessions, which took place from May to June 1980, in Prince’s North Arm Drive Home Studio in Orono, Minnesota (assumed), and completed in June 1980 at Hollywood Sound Recorders in Los Angeles, California.
