She Gave Her Angels is the fourth track on the third and final disc of Prince's 20th album Crystal Ball (his fourth using the name ).
Specific recording dates are not known, but the track is believed to have been recorded in Spring 1996 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. The song was planned for inclusion on the 1996 children's album Happy Tears (announced during a press release focusing on Mayte's pregnancy), which led to its exclusion from Emancipation, compiled at around the same time. It is likely that his (lip-synched) performance of the song on The Muppets Tonight TV show recorded in Late October 1996, was planned to be broadcast to coincide with the album's release, but the album was ultimately abandoned when Prince and Mayte's son died from complications caused by
Pfeiffer Syndrome a week after his birth on 16 October 1996.
