Dear Michaelangelo is the second track on Sheila E.’s second album Romance 1600, and, two weeks before the album’s release, was included as the b-side of Bedtime Story, the album’s second single.
Basic tracking took place on 5 January 1985 or 6 January 1985 (estimate) at Master Sound Studios, Atlanta, Georgia, USA, while in Atlanta for dates on the Purple Rain Tour. Overdubs were done later in Houston, Texas (Le Mobile Studios Mobile @ The Summit) and Cincinnati, Ohio (5th Floor Recording Studio).
In 2019, Prince’s own version was released as the thirteenth track on the posthumous album Originals.
