Record Plant Mobile Unit II


Overview & History

Record Plant Mobile Unit II is one of two mobile recording facility from Record Plant in Los Angeles, California. It is a 29'2" x 8'4" unit, built in a GMC bobtail with full air conditioning and air ride suspension. It was utilized by Prince in 1985 to record his performances of the American Music Awards and Grammy Awards, both at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California.

Studio

The Mobile Unit 2 comes with an API 44 x 24 16- bus full patch console that is designed specially for live recording applications. For audio recorders it has an Otan MIR-90 24-track analog, Ampex AIR-102, Ampex ATR-104, Sony 3324/ 3348 digital, and Mitsubishi 32-track. Its monitor speakers were: JBL 4320. Furthermore it has Dolby-A Synchronization Systems and mic/outboard processing that could be supplied from the Record Plant Los Angeles Studios.
