Ain’t Gonna Miss U When U’re Gone is the eighth track to have been released on 3rdEyeGirl.com, on 12 June 2013, and is credited to "Prince featuring Ledisi," though Ledisi appears only on background vocals.
The song was recorded in late 2012 or early 2013, most likely at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. The studio version of the track was played by DJ Rashida prior to Prince’s show on 17 January 2013 (show 1): Dakota Jazz Club & Restaurant, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
It was included (as "Ain’t Gon Miss Ya") as the first track on a CD found at Paisley Park Studios following Prince’s death, labeled "Live Band Trax". The other tracks (Screwdriver, When She Comes, Shade Of Umber, Boyfriend, and The Secret Text) mostly stem from 2012 or early 2013, suggesting that this CD was compiled around that time. It is not known if the version included on the CD was a live in-studio take with the then-nascent 3rdEyeGirl line-up, or the original studio recording for the band members to learn.
It is unknown if the studio version of this song was intended for any particular project. The horn arrangement is by Prince and Michael B. Nelson.
