Singles released
|
|
Of the 3 singles released, only the one containing a Prince contribution is listed below.
|
|
| A.C. is the third and final solo album by André Cymone (who had left Prince’s band in 1981), and was released on 16 August 1985.
The album included one song written and produced by Prince, titled The Dance Electric, which was Prince’s first and only contribution to André Cymone’s solo studio recordings.
Prince reportedly gave the song to André Cymone after Cymone’s mother asked Prince for a song (Cymone himself was too proud to do so). The rest of the album was written and produced by André Cymone.
Sessions and compiling
The Dance Electric was recorded by Prince almost exactly a year before the album’s release, on 17 August 1984. Cymone’s lead vocals were overdubbed in early 1985 at Ocean Way Recording, Hollywood, CA, USA.
Promotion
The album produced three singles, The Dance Electric, Satisfaction, and Lipstick Lover. The Dance Electric became his biggest hit, perhaps due to Prince’s input on the song.
The album reached only number 121 on the US Billboard 200 Chart, but reached number 28 on the US Billboard Soul LP’s Chart.
An expanded CD re-release of the newly remastered album was released by Big Break Records in the UK in 2011 (marking the album’s first CD release) containing additional tracks, including the versions of The Dance Electric previously only included on the single release of The Dance Electric. The album was re-released in the USA in 2013 with a previously unreleased extended version of The Dance Electric and other bonus tracks.
