Call Of The Wild is an unreleased track recorded on 23 July 1985 at the Washington Avenue Warehouse in Eden Prairie, Minnesota. Susannah Melvoin had prompted Prince to listen to some music by British rock band Led Zeppelin, which inspired Prince to write this heavy rock track. Susan Rogers and Peggy McCreary mixed the track in September 1985, when Prince was considering it for use on Parade. It was not included on any known configuration of the album, however, and Prince may have thought it did not fit musically. The track remains unreleased, but the lyrics and melody of its verses were later re-used in part for the also unreleased We Got The Power. The melody of the verses was also re-used for The Ryde Dyvine.
While it is not known if the recording included participation from other Revolution bandmembers, the song is listed here as a Prince and the Revolution recording based on the timing of its recording and its consideration for the Parade album, which was released under the name Prince and the Revolution.
A lyric from Call Of The Wild - "We play it loud so they know we’re alive" - is displayed prominently in the posthumous Prince: The Immersive Experience attraction, which opened in Chicago, Illinois, on 9 June 2022.

- While this track inspired by Led Zeppelin remains unreleased, Prince later began playing Led Zeppelin’s track Whole Lotta Love regularly live (beginning in 2002).
- Beside instrumentals this is one of the few released Prince songs where the title is not mentioned verbatim in the lyrics, Anotherloverholenyohead, Bob George, The Sacrifice Of Victor, S&M Groove being other examples. Together with Reflection, however, Call Of The Wild is one of the very few where the title isn’t in the lyrics at all. Some songs by Led Zeppelin also fall in this category (Black Dog, Carouselambra, Immigrant Song....).
- This song was previously incorrectly thought to be called 9-5 People, and from 1988, however it is now verified this is its correct title and no song called 9-5 People seems to exist or have existed.
- This was one of the unreleased tracks played for VIP attendees of the Celebration event held at Paisley Park Studios in June 2025 (along with an untitled instrumental Jam, Free (Acoustic version), Shade Of Umber, Ain’t No Way, an alternate version of The Question Of U from 1986, Beatown, Love Never Has 2 Say Goodbye, Turn Me Loose (Instrumental mix), A Couple Miles and The Ladder (Rehearsal from dec. 1984)).
