	The song was performed regularly by Vanity 6 during their opening sets on the 1999 Tour. Prince did not take part in these performances, except for one show (24 March 1983 at San Antonio Convention Center Arena, San Antonio, TX, USA (assumed, based on average setlist - For Vanity 6’s set during the 1999 Tour, where The Time would play behind a pink curtain, Prince played bass from backstage replacing Terry Lewis, as both he and Jimmy Jam missed the show after being snowed in in Atlanta)). This track is not believed to have been performed live by Prince on any other occasion.

If A Girl Answers (Don’t Hang Up) is the fifth track on Vanity 6’s first and only album Vanity 6. The track was co-written, produced and largely performed by Prince (as was the rest of the album). Prince also speaks on the track using his Jamie Starr voice, playing the role of a woman answering the phone and engaging in conversation with Vanity.

While specific recording dates are unknown, basic tracking took place in March or April 1982, at Prince’s Kiowa Trail Home Studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota (during the same set of sessions that produced Bite The Beat, He’s So Dull and Nasty Girl).
