Nasty Girl is the first track on Vanity 6’s first and only album Vanity 6, and, six weeks after the album’s release, Nasty Girl was released as the album’s second single. In 1996, the track was included as the sixth track on the soundtrack album Girl 6 (a compilation of music by Prince and associated artists for the movie Girl 6, directed by Spike Lee).
It was also included as the b-side of the accompanying single Girl 6 (the single was credited to the New Power Generation). Prince later heavily quoted Nasty Girl on Hot Wit U (Nasty Girl Remix), released as the fourth track on the 2001 release Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic, a companion piece to Prince’s 23rd full-length studio album Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic.
While specific recording dates are unknown, basic tracking took place in late March 1982 at Prince’s Kiowa Trail Home Studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota (during the same set of sessions that produced Bite The Beat, He’s So Dull and If A Girl Answers (Don’t Hang Up)).
