Letitgo is the ninth track on Prince’s fifteenth album Come. It was released as the lead single, a week before the album.
In 2001, a 1995 live version was released as part of NPG Music Club Edition # 2.
In 2005, the same live version was included on the Live From Paisley Park download EP.
Basic tracks were recorded on 14 March 1994 at Paisley Park Studios , three days after delivering the original configuration of the Come album to Warner Bros.
Although credited to Prince (along with the rest of the album, which was recorded prior to the name change), Letitgo was recorded eight months after Prince began using the name  .
The album version’s opening ("Ready or not, here I come") is sampled from the unreleased Vanity 6 track Vibrator, although actually extracted from Poem, which was divided up throughout the album as segues (culminating in the final track, Orgasm).
Recording dates and studio details are not known for the remixes, which did not contain any new input by Prince. For some unknown reason, the maxi-single contains two remixes with slightly different names and durations (Caviar Radio Edit and Cavi 'Street Edit), but these two versions are identical. The Caviar Radio Edit and its variants were remixed by Q.D. III, son of famed producer Quincy Jones. Interestingly, these remixes uses an instrumentation not too far removed from a remix Q.D. III did of Ice Cube song’s When I Get To Heaven, also released in 1994 on the compilation Bootleg & B-Sides. The When I Get To Heaven (Remix) also contains additional vocals by Cube, including the line "Microphone Check" later sampled by on The Good Life (Big City Remix) and Mr. Happy.
The Sherm Stick Edit and the (-) Sherm Stick Edit are both based around looped uncredited samples of The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker and Grand Funk Railroad’s Nothing Is The Same (from their 1970 album Closer To Home), which can be heard throughout the song.
