Affirmation III is the 13th and final track on Prince’s 37th album Art Official Age, released on 30 September 2014. The album’s ninth track is titled Affirmation I & II.
While specific recording dates are not known, basic tracking is believed to have taken place in Spring or Summer 2014 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. British folk/soul singer/songwriter Lianne La Havas, who appears as the narrator on the track, gave an interview in late February 2014, in which she stated she had not yet recorded with Prince but would love to, indicating that the track had not yet been recorded. La Havas appeared live with Prince in March and July 2014, and it is possible they worked together on the track then (along with Clouds, Affirmation I & II and Way Back Home), but this is purely speculative.
The track is also largely a continuation of Way Back Home, indicating that it was recorded after that track. The orchestral parts by Stringenius were originally recorded for Way Back Home, but Prince chose to retain only a part for this song and include them in full on Affirmation III.
