The Story So Far... is the fourth promotional compilation album by Prince (after 1984 sampler, Strange Tales From The Rain and His Majesty’s Pop Life), available in Summer 1986 on cassette in the UK only (the previous two were only available in Japan), to be played in stores to promote the first three nights of the Parade Tour in London (starting 12 August 1986).

A promotional VHS, also titled The Story So Far..., was also available for in-store play.

The cassette includes eleven tracks which had all been released as singles, from seven Prince/Prince and the Revolution studio albums, all released originally between 1979 and 1986. The cover states:

Prince had, in fact, released eight albums at that point, although neither For You nor Controversy were represented on this collection.
