Blue Light is the seventh track (sixth song) on Prince’s 14th album , the second to be credited to Prince and the New Power Generation.
Basic tracking took place on 12 May 1991 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (two days after Gett Off, on the same day Eric Leeds recorded saxophone overdubs on You’re All I Want).
It was the earliest-recorded track to be used on the album. It was included as the ninth track (sixth song) on March 1992, and late-Summer 1992, configurations of the album, until many of the album’s segues were removed for release.
A tape box in Prince’s vault has a date of 11 December 1991 written on it. It is unclear if this is a new / alternate version or a mix of the song.
In early 1993, Blue Light was planned as a single, with a test pressing made, but the single was left unreleased.
