Future Baby Mama is the fifth track from Prince’s 32nd album Planet Earth, and, in late 2007, Future Baby Mama was available as a promo single in France only as the album’s third worldwide single (but the first and only in France). On 10 February 2008, the track won the Grammy Award for "Best Male R&B Vocal Performance" (beating Woman by Raheem DeVaughn, B.U.D.D.Y. by Musiq Soulchild, Because Of You by Ne-Yo and Please Don’t Go by Tank).
While specific recording dates are not known, it is likely that basic tracking took place between November 2006 and early-to-mid January 2007 while Prince was in Las Vegas, Nevada for the Per4ming Live 3121 residency. According to engineer Ian Boxill, Prince recorded his vocals in a bathroom at 3121 at The Rio in Las Vegas, Nevada right before a show.
