He's So Dull is the fourth track on Vanity 6's first and only album Vanity 6, and, in some territories the track was also included on the 12" version of Nasty Girl, the album's first single. Five and a half months after the album's release, He's So Dull was released as the album's third single. The track was written and produced by Dez Dickerson, and features Prince as a musician only (unlike the rest of the album, which was written and produced by Prince).
While specific recording dates are unknown, basic tracking took place in late March 1982 at Prince's Kiowa Trail Home Studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota (during the same set of sessions that produced Nasty Girl and Bite The Beat).
