I'm A DJ is an unreleased song recorded in late 1994 or early January 1995, at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, Minnesota. Eric Leeds recorded saxophone overdubs on 16 January 1995, also at Paisley Park Studios (on the same day as recording horn overdubs on Big Fun, Good Pussy and Return Of The Bump Squad). The track is commonly referred to as Am The D.J., but is credited on its ASCAP copyright listing as I'm A DJ, and so is listed as such here. In its earliest occurrence the song was simply known as D.J..
It is not known if the track was intended at any point for the New Power Generation's album Exodus, on which Prince (as ) was working at the time. It was included as the eighth track on a July 1995, configuration of Emancipation, however, and as the ninth track on another 1995 configuration. The track was removed as the album underwent many changes, however. The track remains unreleased.
