Jaguar is the fourth track on Mavis Staples' first Paisley Park Records album Time Waits For No One, and, in 1989, Jaguar was released as the album’s third and final single.
Basic tracks were recorded on 14 January 1987, at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, California (four days after 101). The song was initially intended for Sheena Easton, who had asked Prince to produce her next album, but when Prince declined since he would not have time, the song was kept instead. In February 1988, the song was sent to Mavis Staples in Memphis, Tennessee, where she recorded lead vocal overdubs with producers Al Bell, Homer Banks and Lester Snell at Ardent Studios.
