Tracking for Luv Sexy took place with the whole band on 14 December 1987 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (two days after No and Positivity, and the day before Sheila E. recorded lead vocal overdubs on Latino Barbie Doll).
This original song, described by Eric Leeds as "lighter, bouncier", was very different from Lovesexy, although it did have the same horn/synth hook-line as well as the 'rain is wet sugar is sweet' lyrics and dialogue, also at the end of Lovesexy. The song had a faster pace.
Luv Sexy was included on an (untitled) acetate of most songs that ended up on Lovesexy. Three days after this acetate was made Prince would record Lovesexy, as a replacement for Luv Sexy.
