Mo' Better is the tenth track on Mayte’s first and only album Child Of The Sun. The song was written by Prince (as ), Andrew Hopkins and E.M. Hunter, and produced by Kirk Johnson. It is the only song on the album not to feature Prince as a musician.
While specific recording dates are not known, basic tracking took place in early 1995, at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. Andrew Hokpins and Eugene Hunter (as E.M. Hunter), two members of a Minneapolis band called Man 2 Man, were given co-writing credit for the borrowing a line from one of their songs. They recorded some tracks at Paisley Park Studios in 1995 for their debut album with Kirk Johnson producing. One of the songs they wrote with Johnson was called Mo’ Better (When It’s Wetter). Prince heard this track and used the line for the song he was writing for Mayte. Man 2 Man’s album, Intimate Black Secrets was released in 1997 with the song Mo’ Better (When It’s Wetter), and aside from borrowing this phrase and having Kirk Johnson as the sole musician and producer, these two slow songs have nothing in common musically however.
Mo' Better was included, in a more raw form than released, as the tenth track on a 5 May 1995 configuration of Child Of The Sun, where it remained for release, although it was worked on further in Summer 1995 before release. It is not known if the track was included on Mayte’s album Scorpio, which included some tracks from Child Of The Sun.
