Money Don’t Matter 2 Night is the tenth track on Prince’s 13th album Diamonds And Pearls, the first album to be credited to Prince and the New Power Generation, and, five months after the album’s release, Money Don’t Matter 2 Night was released as the album’s fifth single, released worldwide. In 2001, the track was included as the 17th and final track on The Very Best Of Prince. In 2006, the track was included as the 14th track on the first disc of Ultimate. In 2003, an aborted live version from 2002 was included at the start of the third track (Money Don’t Matter Tonight /The Work Part 1) on the Live At The Aladdin Las Vegas DVD.

Basic tracking took place on 4 September 1990 at Warner Pioneer Studios, Tokyo, Japan (on the same day as Strollin’, 5 Women, Willing And Able and the instrumental Darkside, that would evolve into Blood On The Sheets). Prince overdubbed the lead vocals two week later, recording himself. The result was an audible slight distortion, that was kept for the version released on Diamonds And Pearls.

The track was included as the eighth track on the December 1990, configuration of Diamonds And Pearls, but was moved to become the tenth track on the 1 March 1991 and 8 May 1991 configurations, where it remained for release.
