My Man is the seventh track on Jill Jones’s first and only Paisley Park Records album Jill Jones. Although Jill Jones was credited as the writer, the song was written solely by Prince and is registered at the Library of Congress as having been written by Joey Coco.
Basic tracking for Prince’s original version took place on 10 May 1985 at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, California (shortly after compiling a first configuration of the Parade album). Clare Fischer recorded an arrangement for the song in June 1985, but this went unused on the released version. Jill Jones recorded her lead vocal on it in December 1985, after which the song received a final mix a few days later.
