Sexuality is the second track on Prince’s fourth album Controversy, and, in 1982, Sexuality was released as the album’s fourth single (available only in Germany and Australia). In 1982, it was included as the fifth and final track on the Australian 12" of 1999, the first single from Prince’s fifth album 1999.
While specific recording dates are not known, the album sessions took place in Spring and Summer 1981, at at Kiowa Trail Home Studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota and Hollywood Sound Recorders in Los Angeles, California. The album was completed at Sunset Sound in Hollywood, California, between 14 and 23 August 1981.
When performed live in 2006-7 during the Las Vegas residency, Prince changed the title and main lyric of the song to "Spirituality", which caused some debate amongst the online fan community.
