Sexy Dancer is the third track on Prince’s second album Prince, and, seven months after the album’s release, Sexy Dancer was released as the album’s third single, although it was released only in the UK and Japan, where it was the album’s second single (after I Wanna Be Your Lover).

While specific dates are not known, the track was most likely recorded in April 1979 at Alpha Studios in Burbank, California. Overdubs and mixing took place at Hollywood Sound Recorders in Los Angeles, California in May 1979.

Although it wasn’t released as a single in the USA, Sexy Dancer (with I Wanna Be Your Lover) reached position 3 in the Billboard Disco Top 100 Chart, indicating the track was a DJ favorite in US clubs.
