Baby Knows was the first promotional single from Prince’s 23rd album Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic, the sixth album to be credited to . Baby Knows was first sent in October 1999 to Dutch music journalists with information on how to obtain an invitation to the album listening session scheduled for 26 October 1999 (Man‘O’War was also available around the same time in The Netherlands with the same artwork). This initial release contained Hot Wit U (listed as Hot With You) as the second track. The song was re-released later in 1999 (after the release of Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic) in The Netherlands with a different artwork and no additional track and again in Italy in April 2000.
