The Work Part 1 was the first single from Prince’s 24th album The Rainbow Children, and was sold online as a CD single at the NPG Music Club only.

The b-side, U Make My Sun Shine, was previously available online and on the U Make My Sun Shine single, and later included on The Chocolate Invasion.

Because of its limited release, the single was not eligible for any charts.
