Glam Slam was the second single to be released from Prince’s tenth album Lovesexy. It was released two months after the album, and received a release around the world. Like the previous single Alphabet St., the single was released in a clear sleeve with a stylized sticker, rather than traditional artwork. The b-side, Escape, was previously-unreleased.
Prince decided a few days before the single’s release that it was the wrong choice for a second single and tried to stop its release, but was unable to.
The single failed to enter the US Billboard Hot 100, and only reached number 44 on the Billboard Hot Black Singles Chart. It fared better in the UK, where it reached number 29 on the Gallup Singles Chart.
