Child Of The Sun
(Album)

If Love U 2night was Mayte’s first single linked to her work with Prince/ (see trivia). It initially received only a limited release in 1994 through The New Power Generation Store in Minneapolis, and was not connected to an album at the time of release (no forthcoming album was listed on the single’s artwork). The song was included on the album 1-800 New Funk, a compilation of mostly-unreleased music largely written and produced by Prince/, recorded by other Paisley Park Records/ NPG Records artists, shortly after. The artwork of this initial release was included in the booklet of this compilation. In addition to the spanish version If Love U 2night, this edition contains an early version of However Much U Want not available elsewhere. The song was later reworked and included on Mayte’s Child Of The Sun in 1995.

If Love U 2night was re-released in 1995 and became the second and final commercial single linked to Mayte’s first and only album Child Of The Sun (released shortly before the album), in the UK and Europe. The b-side, The Rhythm Of Your ♥, was also taken from the album. Remixes of If Love U 2night were included on some versions of the single.

The single reached number 67 in the UK Gallup Singles Chart.

For the Mica Paris single release of the same track (using the original title If I Love U 2 Nite), see If I Love U 2 Nite.

  • Two singles with Mayte as a singer were released by Edel in Germany in 1993: Too Dramatic and a cover of Mr. Mister’s song Broken Wings. These tracks were recorded before she met Prince but released by the label a few years later unbestknown to her. Edel wanted to capitalize on her connection with Prince.
