If I Love U 2 Nite was the third and final single to be released from Mica Paris’ second album Contribution, and was released three months after the album, in the UK and Germany.
The b-sides, Stand Up and I Wish I’d Never Met You, were previously-unreleased tracks with no input by Prince. Remixes of If I Love U 2 Nite were included on some versions of the single.
A promo 12" version of the single inadvertently included Prince’s 1987 version of the track which was submitted to Paris for her to re-record. This copies (most likely from a bootleged tape) were printed by mistake without the consent of the artists and the label. A recall campaign was launched by Island Records to get back these 200 disputed copies sent to DJs, becoming an instantly collectible item.
The single reached number 43 in the UK Gallup Singles Chart.
For Mayte’s single release of the same track (retitled If Love U 2night), see If Love U 2night.
