Son Of Sexy M.F. is an unreleased instrumental believed to have been recorded in 1992, at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota. The groove and feel of the song are similar to Sexy M.F., leading to the title, but the songs are not directly musically connected. It’s possible that Prince planned to add lyrics and rename the track, but it’s thought that this did not take place.
The track was not known until it was played for attendees at the posthumous 2022 Prince Celebration at Paisley Park Studios during a studio session on June 3, 2022. During the studio session, band members from The New Power Generation who had played on the original track provided live accompaniment as if recording live with Prince, including solos as directed on the recording by him. At one point on the track, Prince calls out for a solo from Mike Scott, who first played with him on Work That Fat in February, 1991, before joining the The New Power Generation in late 1996. Since Sexy M.F. itself was recorded in mid-December 1991, however, it seems likely that Son Of Sexy M.F. was recorded in 1992, although further details are not currently known.
