Take This Beat is an unreleased song recorded in early October 1987 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota (during the same set of sessions that produced When 2 R In Love and U). It is not known if the song was intended for “The Black Album” or any other project at the time of recording. The next year, lyrics from the track were incorporated into the final "part" of the extended version of I Wish U Heaven, titled I Wish U Heaven (Part 1, 2 & 3). The full track remains unreleased, however.
The lyrical structure of the track, including the "Take this..." opening of many lines, was largely reused for What’s My Name, though the tracks are distinct in every other way.
