The Other Side Of The Pillow is the eighth track on Prince’s 21st album The Truth (his fifth using the name ). In 2002, a live version was also included as the seventh track on the first disc of One Nite Alone... Live!, Prince’s first live album (along with Muse 2 The Pharaoh, Mellow and Strange Relationship from the same show), and a slightly edited version had been included seven months earlier as the fourth track on the One Nite Alone... Live EP promotional CD.
Specific recording dates are not known, but was recorded in the winter of 1996 / 1997 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota, when sessions for the album took place. The song was performed on the One Nite Alone... Tour in 2002. Prince re-recorded The Other Side Of The Pillow with Maceo Parker (who was a band member on the One Nite Alone... Tour) in studio that year but, according to Parker, they never got to finish it. He re-recorded the track (as Other Side Of The Pillow) after Prince’s passing and included it on his album Soul Food: Cooking With Maceo released in 2020. As his new version contains no Prince input, it is not listed below.
