The Second Coming is an unreleased a capella track recorded at some point in 1981 at Prince’s Kiowa Trail Home Studio in Chanhassen, Minnesota. It was played over the PA as an introduction on the Controversy Tour before the opening song (originally Sexuality, before being replaced by Uptown), beginning prior to the tour’s first show with a one-off show, 5 October 1981, Sam’s, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The title and lyrics refer to the prophesied second coming of Christ, while also calling for gun control laws (a topic also addressed in Annie Christian, also from 1981). It is assumed that the track would have been included as the first track on The Second Coming, the live album planned to accompany the planned movie of the Controversy Tour, also titled The Second Coming, but both projects were abandoned. The track remains unreleased.
