Too Tough is an unreleased song, perhaps originally recorded in 1980 at Prince’s North Arm Drive Home Studio in Orono, Minnesota. Not much is known about the song except that it was on the same tape as I Don’t Wanna Stop. In a notebook where Prince wrote his (undated) synopsis for what would become the movie Purple Rain and included in The Beautiful Ones book (released posthumously in 2019), Too Tough is listed as one of the songs to be included in the film (along with Baby I’m A Star, I Would Die 4 U, Moonbeam Levels, I Can’t Stop This Feeling I Got, Wouldn’t U Love To Love Me, I Just Wanna Be Rich and Bold Generation).
A different song called Rough, (often incorrectly referred to as Too Rough) was long assumed to be the same track, however that song was found to be recorded on an entirely different tape.
