Turn Your Lights Down Low is a cover version by Rosie Gaines of the track originally recorded by Bob Marley and the Wailers, from their 1977 album Exodus, written by Bob Marley). Rosie Gaines’ version was recorded in June 1990, at Olympic Studios, London, England (during the same set of sessions that produced Daddy Pop, Schoolyard and Walk Don’t Walk, but mostly focused on Rosie Gaines’ first solo album, recording My Tender Heart, Hold Me, Pain, Streetwalker and In The Name Of Love).
It was later released by Rosie Gaines on Closer Than Close in a version with additional recording in different studios. An alternate take where Prince’s vocals are mixed more to the fore was released as 'Alternate Version' on the 20th Anniversary Edition of the Closer Than Close album. A ‘string-less’ version was available on her official website Rosiegaines.com. Prince’s background vocals from the original 1990 recording were most likely kept, albeit he’s not credited.
