Twisted is an unreleased cover version by SymbolSmallerBlue.png of a track originally written as an instrumental by Wardell Gray in 1949, before having lyrics added by Scottish jazz singer Annie Ross in 1952 and being released as a single (later included on the album King Pleasure Sings / Annie Ross Sings, the same year). SymbolSmallerBlue.png may have been more familiar with the song from Joni Mitchell’s cover version, however, released on her album Court And Spark in 1974 (which also includes Help Me, a song mentioned in The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker). Prince’s unreleased 1982 track Lust U Always paraphrases lyrics from Twisted, but he is not believed to have recorded Twisted itself until mid-1998 at Paisley Park Studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota.

The track was planned for inclusion on the album Beautiful Strange (and was included in a lyric book titled as such, carried by Prince on the One Nite Alone... Tour), but this project was left unfinished, and the track remains unreleased.
