Mary Don’t You Weep is a video released posthumously to promote the album Piano & A Microphone 1983.
Initially a version of the video was released with a still of the album cover image. A bit later an extended trailer for the Spike Lee film BlacKkKlansman (which features the Piano & A Microphone 1983 version of Mary Don’t You Weep) replaced it.
In August 2018, a new video was filmed in New York by director Salomon Ligthelm, specifically created for the song with entirely new footage. The video, a protest against gun violence, incorporates two Prince quotes as bookends. The opening statement, "The system is broken. It’s going to take the young people to fix it this time. We need new ideas, new life...", is the same quote that concludes the Baltimore music video.
