Mary Don’t You Weep is a video released posthumously to promote the album Piano & A Microphone 1983.
Initially a version of the video was released with a still of the album cover image. A bit later an extended trailer for the Spike Lee film BlacKkKlansman (which features the Piano & A Microphone 1983 version of Mary Don’t You Weep) replaced it.
In August 2018 a new video was shot in New York by director Salomon Ligthelm purposefully for the song with all new material. The dramatic video is a protest against gun violence and it features two Prince quotes as bookends. "The system is broken. It's going to take the young people to fix it this time. We need new ideas, new life..." is the opening statement in the video. This is the exact same Prince quote that ends the Baltimore music video.
